When was Teamgym born in the USA and how many participants are there?
In 1998, the USA Gymnastics for All committee visited a TeamGym competition in Sweden while on a site visit for the World Gymnaestrada.
Observing groups of athletes working together to achieve a team goal was an ideal fit for promoting more group activities in the United States.
The first set of rules was developed in 1999 outlining 4 levels.
The rules have continued to evolve, and the national championship has continued yearly since 1999.
Local competitions for TeamGym take place throughout the United States from January through June with around 1000 athletes participating.
Is it a sport for all?
In the United States, TeamGym is an activity within the Gymnastics for All discipline and is open to all ability levels.
